DI ETHYLETER INDIA
General Information
Diethyl ether of the chemical formula (C2H5) 2 O is a colorless, volatile and readily flammable liquid in the form of ethyl or ethoxy ethane. When exposed to light for a long time, it can be quite dangerous by forming explosive peroxides. While the solubility in water is small, it dissolves in all proportions with alcohol. It is the most general member of the ethers class, but isomer of butanol.
Production and Reactions
The synthesis in industry is done by dehydration of ethyl alcohol. Upon heating of the ethyl alcohol mixed with the leather sulfuric acid, diethyl ether is formed and the reaction in equilibrium with the removal of the formed diethyl ether from the medium by distillation is shifted to the right. The reaction is carried out at about 140 [deg.] C. At lower temperatures the reaction takes place very slowly and the conversion of ethanol to ethylene at elevated temperatures is observed.
Ethylen can be produced by ether fabrication process.
